Powerful Social Impact Photo Project Don’t You Want Me is excited to share some positive news! We’re reaching our arms around the world with #DYWMglobalsessions.

The Don’t You Want Me Project co-founders, Deb Klein (Brighton, UK) and Jack Jackson (Toronto) have announced that with immediate effect they will be doing global Facetime portrait sessions for anyone that meets the criteria for the project. To be eligible participants must identify as LGBTQ and have a rescue dog, or dog(s). This relationship must have had a significant transformative effect and they should be willing to share their stories.

Don't You Want Me is a global social impact documentary photography project showcasing the beauty and resilience of LGBTQ people with their rescue dogs. Think Humans of New York except with powerful queer and trans narratives combined with cute dogs - the project is bringing people to tears.

Jack Jackson, co-founder: “Why is this project important? Why now? Now more than at any other time in our collective history, people irrespective of socio-economic status have lived experiences of isolation, financial concerns and hardship. Many of our participants to date identify as transgender. This project shows what happens when people become isolated - by discrimination, hate and ignorance - and how people flourish when love, connection and community return. Trans people simply need the same as everyone else - love, security, family and not to live in fear of their lives or futures. Given the current pandemic this is exactly the time when these stories will resonate most.”

“It’s time to radically change how we treat the most vulnerable and marginalised in our society, how we address toxic masculinity, inequality and discrimination. I personally don’t ever want to go back to normal.”

Coupling compelling images and personal narratives, Don’t You Want Me shows that individuals of all stripes have the ability to transform their lives when they are given love and the question of ‘who rescued who’ becomes universal, no matter how you identify. This ongoing photo project (and ultimately book) reaches out across borders, from North America to Europe, and onward.
